How Accurate are Google Data?

In Three Words: Not At All! In One Word: Misleading

A couple of days ago, the Internet marketing world was hit by what seemed to be wonderful news: Google’s Keyword Tool started showing actual numbers instead of graphs for search volume.

My Inbox was flooded with messages from all the newsletters I subscribe to, announcing the revolution. One of the gurus went so far as to conclude: “… it probably spells the end for services like Wordtracker.” Another guru couldn’t curb his enthusiasm: “Holy cow! Talk about shaking up the planet”

I hate to be the party pooper, but this was the last straw for me as far as Google’s accuracy is concerned.   I am working now on a detailed report + video which will demonstrate how “accurate” is the information that Google supplies to its users.

I wouldn’t be so bad if Google were just a search engine, but Google charges millions of people billions of dollars for Adwords. And a smart advertiser has to rely on the data that Google gives him or her to make intelligent decisions regarding his/her advertising campaign. If these data are false/extremely inaccurate, there is a good chance that most advertisers who use Adwords are spending a fortune to no avail.

It will take me a few days to prepare my evidenced report and video about the vast gap between Google’s know-all pretension and the sad facts.
